We started Home Care Assistance after I had a bad experience finding care for my own parents. My Dad had hip replacement surgery, and on his first day home, my Mom decided she would help him get in and out of bed. It didn't take long for my Mom to experience severe back pain, and she soon joined him injured and in bed.
Because I lived 3000 miles away in California, I suggested that we find in-home help through a home care agency. At first, all was fine. Then the caregiver began arriving later and later. One day, she called my parents and said she couldn't come anymore, but was sending a cousin in her place.
That day was a defining moment in my life. The cousin turned up the television and couldn't hear my parents calling for help. I'll never forget that phone call...my Mom was crying, my Dad was shouting and I was helplessly holding the phone...It was time to step in and take charge of my parents' care.
Today, I visit clients in their homes and other settings, manage their care and stay in touch with their families and loved ones.
As a Certified Care Manager, I expect the highest quality care and professionalism from all Home Care Assistance employees. And because of my personal experience, at Home Care Assistance we have taken the steps necessary to hire the very best people, train them in all important skills and place them in home environments that reward good work.
What started as a problem in my own family has evolved into a solution for thousands of families, first in the San Francisco Bay Area, and now in our locations across the United States and Canada.
